The first Painted Promises: original work hung the length of the hall

The short version

Monrovia has artists. What it doesn’t have is a room where they meet.

Painted Promises is a three-day exhibition and opening night that funds The Creative Compound — a free monthly gathering for artists and creatives, hosted at KGEM Television in partnership with the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts.

$18,000+raised at the first Painted Promises, with $10,000 given to school communities affected by the Eaton Fire.

The weekend

Three days,one street.

Friday
Opening night. Full production, lighting, and a DJ. The room is built out and completely alive.
Saturday
Adult classes and talks on street art — the people making it, in the room, teaching how it is actually done. Open gallery hours alongside, with food from Myrtle Avenue.
Sunday
Youth classes and activation. The room turns over to the next generation, and the weekend closes on the final viewing and final sales.

Original work is for sale all three days. Curation, artist relations, and the look of the room are led by Ryan Burch, who created Painted Promises. A share of every sale returns to Community Reimagined.

Why this matters on Myrtle

The theater is dark. This is three days of people downtown with a reason to be there.

Painted Promises takes a vacant storefront and turns it into the busiest room in the city for a weekend — people on the sidewalk, on your patio, walking past your door on their way in and on their way out.

Food and drink are sourced from Myrtle Avenue restaurants rather than brought in. Sponsors are named in the room, on every printed and digital piece, and in the reporting that follows.

The ask

Come in early, and your name is on the room.

Tell us which level fits and we will hold it while the dates lock. If none of them fit and you still want in, say so — this is Monrovia, we will figure it out.
