The work

It started in 2024 with a conversation about only seeing each other at funerals — which just didn’t feel right. Chris reserved some space at Library Park, called friends and folks from his hometown, three DJs offered to provide the soundtrack, and a homemade flyer went out. That afternoon became the first House Party at the Park.

Now it is our flagship gathering. Local low- and no-cost service providers table at the park while DJs and musicians keep the energy high. Multilingual flyering pulls in residents who would never find these resources on their own. Cities use it to make services visible. Residents use it to find them.

Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Food, music, youth activities, games, a car show, and community resources in one afternoon — plus the M-Town Award, recognizing people making a positive impact in Monrovia. It’s all love whether you’ve been in the city your whole life, or just moved into the neighborhood.
